- Description: The Hobbit is a tale of high adventure, undertaken by a company of dwarves in search of dragon-guarded gold. A reluctant partner in this perilous quest is Bilbo Baggins, a comfort-loving unambitious hobbit, who surprises even himself by his resourcefulness and skill as a burglar. Encounters with trolls, goblins, dwarves, elves, and giant spiders, conversations with the dragon, Smaug, and a rather unwilling presence at the Battle of Five Armies are just some of the adventures that befall Bilbo. Bilbo Baggins has taken his place among the ranks of the immortals of children’s fiction. Written by Professor Tolkien for his children, The Hobbit met with instant critical acclaim when published.
Chapter 1: Introduction
In J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth, the Shire is a peaceful and serene region inhabited by hobbits. The Hobbit, a novel published in 1937, is a fantastical tale that narrates the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit who loves comfort, food, and quiet life. Bilbo, a clever, resourceful and brave hobbit, is the protagonist of the story.

Gandalf, a powerful wizard, visits Bilbo and invites himself to tea. Gandalf is on a mission to find a burglar, and he thinks Bilbo is the perfect candidate. Bilbo, however, is not interested in the venture and tries to decline the offer. But Gandalf, with his cleverness and cunning, convinces Bilbo to join the quest.
Chapter 3: A Short Rest
Bilbo and the dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield, rest at the Elf kingdom of Rivendell. Here, they receive valuable advice and assistance from Elrond. Smaug, the dragon, destroys Esgaroth, and the people are forced to escape. Bilbo, with the dwarves, rides on barrels down the river and eventually reach the Long Lake. Here, they meet the people of Esgaroth, who are preparing for battle against the dragon.
